Just so everyone knows...

I MADE IT TO THE FINALS!!!

If you don't know what that means, let me explain. We're talking about the concerto competition - something that my school does every winter semester. It's where any music student can prepare a concerto and if they do a good enough job, they can be one of three winners to perform their selected concerto with the BYU-I Symphony!!

There are four divisions - Brass, Woodwinds, Strings, and Keyboard. Anyone can try out within those four, and they each have their own auditions. They choose three from each, and then there is a Concerto Festival Concert featuring the semi-finalists. The general public is invited to this, and it is also judged. They then choose the three finalists from the twelve hard-working soloists, and they get to play in said concert with the Symphony. The piano auditions were last night, and I played Rhapsody in Blue. There were 5 entries - one organ, three solo piano concertos and one double piano concerto. The three winners were the organist (playing something written by somebody nobody's heard of... supposedly some LDS compser from Washington?) and the double piano concerto (Poulenc... they did great!) and MEE!! I am so stinkin' excited. That means that the three of us (well four... there's two girls for the double one) along with the other semifinalists are playing on Wednesday the 28th in the Festival Concert. (Yes, that means there are 12 concertos being played... HOLY LONG CONCERT...) I will let everyone know the results of Wednesday. I'll probably know by Thursday or Friday. I'M SOOO PUMPED!!! The Symphony Concerto Concert is on April 1.

P.S. Everyone I talk to in the music building says they hope I win so that they can play Rhapsody in Blue too!
